Van Cleef & Arpels launches fourth edition of the ‘de Mains en mains’ initiative

A Living Heritage company committed to preserving and transmitting savoir-faire, Van Cleef & Arpels is hosting the fourth edition of “de Mains en mains” ("from Hands to Hands"). This ambitious programme aims to introduce young people and adults making career transitions to the jewellery professions while providing pathways into these specialised careers.

A Spotlight on Jewellery Professions in Clermont-Ferrand

After a successful run in Lyon from November 23rd to December 1st, 2024, “de Mains en mains” is making its debut in Clermont-Ferrand from February 12th to 16th, 2025. Held at the Comédie de Clermont-Ferrand, the event showcases the vibrant jewellery ecosystem in the region, offering visitors an opportunity to engage with the craft.

Visitors will be treated to live demonstrations by skilled artisans in a setting that mimics an authentic jewellery workshop. Additionally, an orientation area will host training sessions and highlight career opportunities within the jewellery industry.

Mentoring the Next Generation

“de Mains en mains” goes beyond public events by establishing mentorship programmes for middle and high school students. In partnership with the French Ministry of National Education, the initiative integrates jewellery-related knowledge into the school curriculum. Through hands-on workshops and expert-led classroom sessions, students learn about gemmology, jewellery design, and the craft’s historical significance.

This year, five seventh-grade classes from Gilbert Dru Middle School, ninth-graders from Sainte Jeanne d’Arc, and tenth-graders from the Parcours Avenir will participate. A key component of the programme is the Parcours Métiers, where students engage directly with Van Cleef & Arpels artisans, gaining insights into the creative and technical processes behind jewellery-making.

A Platform for Career Transitions

The event also serves adults exploring career transitions into the jewellery sector. By partnering with institutional and associative organisations, Van Cleef & Arpels provides access to training opportunities, mentorship, and a support network for aspiring artisans.

Expanding Reach and Impact

Since its launch in 2021, “de Mains en mains” has reached over 900 students and welcomed 15,000 visitors, including 7,800 attendees in 2023. The initiative is supported by 17 institutional partners and 180 employees from Van Cleef & Arpels.
