The Macallan's Limited Edition Available Exclusively at Sotheby’s
The Macallan and Sotheby’s unveil the Distil Your World Mexico Single Cask Limited Edition for auction, a rare whisky offering for collectors.
In collaboration with Sotheby’s, The Macallan has unveiled its Distil Your World Mexico Single Cask Limited Edition, a whisky that takes its drinkers on a sensory journey through one of Mexico's most iconic and lively celebrations, the Day of the Dead festival.
This rare whisky, available at auction, presents a unique chance for collectors to acquire one of just two bottles ever created, with Bottle #2 being made available for sale. The first bottle will remain a permanent part of The Macallan’s archive at its estate in Speyside, Scotland.

The bottle comes encased in an eye-catching orange presentation box, featuring a marigold-inspired design that reflects the vibrancy of the Day of the Dead festival. The lot also includes a bespoke piece of artwork, specially created by Mexican illustrator Alfredo Rios, known for his depictions of nature and Mexican folklore.
The Distil Your World series began with London, followed by New York City, and now includes Mexico City, with each edition celebrating the distinctive culture of these dynamic cities. In keeping with its mission to honour global culture through whisky-making, The Macallan previously hosted an exclusive auction for the Distil Your World New York edition, with proceeds benefiting a local charity. Continuing this tradition, all proceeds from the Distil Your World Mexico auction will go directly to Esperanza International, a charity focused on supporting home-building and community development in Mexico.

The creation of Distil Your World Mexico involved collaboration with the renowned Roca brothers, owners of the 3-Michelin Star restaurant El Celler de Can Roca. Whisky Maker Diane Stuart, together with Joan Roca, explored the heart of Mexican culture, meeting inspiring individuals who personify the essence of the Day of the Dead festival. These included celebrated chef Elena Reygadas of Panadería Rosetta, Josefina Garcia, director of collections at the Dolores Olmedo Museum, and marigold cultivator Luis Perez. The resulting single malt whisky captures the vibrant energy, colour, and spirit of Mexico’s beloved holiday.
Available exclusively at auction, this one-of-a-kind bottle was drawn from a single American oak sherry-seasoned cask (Cask No. 1964), filed on 10th February 2005. The whisky’s deep marigold colour and ABV of 54.9% reflect its connection to the Day of the Dead, with tasting notes that include creamy dulce de leche, cinnamon-dusted churros, rich vanilla pod, and charred pineapple.
