Rolls-Royce Creates Time Capsule to be Opened in 2054
Rolls-Royce creates a unique time capsule to mark its Goodwood extension project, to be opened on the marque’s 150th anniversary in 2054.

Rolls-Royce is creating a time capsule to mark a major construction project. In this instance, the marque commemorates the landmark extension currently under construction at the Home of Rolls-Royce. This development represents the most significant single investment in its Goodwood-based facilities in over two decades.
The capsule’s contents have been curated by representatives from Rolls-Royce’s Future Talent programmes, which include Interns, Graduates, and Apprentices. Based on the Service Recognition Awards programme, an annual ceremony honouring Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ longest-serving employees, it is likely that some of those involved in assembling the capsule will still be working at the Home of Rolls-Royce when it is finally opened three decades from now.

Unlike traditional time capsules, this one will not be buried on-site to be unearthed at a later date. Instead, it will serve as a point of interest for both staff and visitors in the reception area of the Home of Rolls-Royce. Once the extension is complete, the capsule will be relocated to a permanent home within the new facility.
Every department and function within the company has contributed to the selection of artefacts enclosed within the capsule. Its contents will remain undisclosed until the capsule is opened in 2054, the year Rolls-Royce celebrates its 150th anniversary.
Some of these items have been chosen to highlight their historical significance, anticipating that they will be obsolete by then. Others have been included because they are expected to remain in daily use, underscoring the brand’s enduring heritage, craftsmanship, and commitment to excellence.
It is hoped that the capsule will inspire curiosity and discussion, much like the 'Cabinet of Curiosities' found in each Rolls-Royce Private Office worldwide, which serves as a source of inspiration for Bespoke commissions. The secrecy surrounding the capsule’s contents adds to the intrigue, reinforcing a sense of mystery and anticipation for future generations.
