Porsche Taycan GTS Secures Record-Breaking Ice Drift Title
The Porsche Taycan GTS has once again demonstrated its exceptional capabilities, achieving a new Guinness World Records™ title for the longest continuous vehicle drift on ice by an electric vehicle.
Under the expert control of Porsche Experience instructor Jens Richter, the Taycan completed an impressive 132 laps in a controlled drift, covering 17.503 kilometres in just 46 minutes on the icy surface of Finnish Lapland.
This remarkable achievement marks the fourth Guinness World Records title for the Taycan, underscoring its prowess as a high-performance electric sports car.
The record attempt took place on 14 January 2025 at the Porsche Arctic Center in Levi, Finland, located 150 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. Despite facing challenging conditions, including a rapidly deteriorating ice track due to the sustained load of drifting, the team persevered.
Jens Richter's first attempt had to be abandoned after 11 kilometres, but a strategic change to shorter spikes and colder evening temperatures ensured success in the second attempt.

During the record-setting drive, Richter relied solely on precise throttle and steering inputs to maintain the drift, highlighting the Taycan GTS's impeccable balance and handling under extreme conditions.
"The Taycan GTS proved its incredible performance and control, even in such demanding circumstances," Richter stated.
The record was achieved using a standard Taycan GTS equipped with commercially available Michelin tyres featuring one-millimetre spikes for added grip.
A professional GPS measuring system tracked every detail of the attempt, including distance, steering movements, and vehicle dynamics, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Guinness World Records standards.
Carl Saville, the official adjudicator, confirmed the results and presented the certificate to Jens Richter and Christian Lehwald, Managing Director of the Porsche Arctic Center.
Lehwald highlighted the significance of the achievement: "The Taycan GTS combines extraordinary performance with precision engineering. This record not only showcases the car's capabilities but also reflects our commitment to pushing boundaries."
The Taycan GTS's new title adds to a growing list of achievements for Porsche's electric lineup. Previous records include the greatest altitude change achieved by an electric vehicle, set in 2023 with the Taycan Cross Turismo, and the fastest indoor speed by a car in 2021.
The record-setting drift took place as part of the Porsche Ice Experience, a global programme offering unique driving experiences on snow and ice.
Since its establishment in Finnish Lapland in 1996, the Ice Experience has become a favourite for enthusiasts, with over 1,500 participants annually.
The Arctic Centre spans 300,000 square metres and features tracks designed by Hermann Tilke, renowned for modern Formula 1 circuits.
With this latest accomplishment, Porsche continues to set the benchmark for electric vehicles, proving that even in extreme conditions, the Taycan GTS delivers unparalleled performance and driving pleasure.
