OMEGA Reveals The Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite

Since its historic 1969 journey to the Moon, the OMEGA Speedmaster has been forever linked to the mysteries of the cosmos. Today, that connection is celebrated with the introduction of the Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite.

This 43 mm collection offers two striking stainless steel designs, each featuring two types of meteorite. It is powered by a revolutionary OMEGA calibre that showcases lunar phases visible from both the northern and southern hemispheres.

The enchantment begins with the dial, crafted from iron meteorite. This extraordinary material, sourced from space, reveals a distinctive ribbon-like pattern unique to each watch. To enhance its allure, OMEGA has applied either a black PVD coating or a galvanic grey finish to the meteorite surface.

The Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite takes innovation further with a groundbreaking display at 6 o’clock. Here, the Moonphase indication features two cabochon moons crafted from genuine lunar meteorites. These moons rotate to illustrate the waxing and waning phases as observed in both hemispheres. Adding to the marvel, the stars in the background mirror their precise positions on the night Apollo 11 landed on the Moon in 1969, viewed from OMEGA’s watchmaking headquarters in Bienne, Switzerland.

At 3 o’clock, a dual subdial provides a 60-minute and 12-hour recorder, while the Small Seconds subdial at 9 o’clock incorporates a date display with a distinctive red anodised aluminium hand.

The watch’s heart is the manual-winding Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9914, a newly developed movement visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. Resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss, it delivers exceptional precision and performance and is certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).

Distinctive details for each model include:

  • A black PVD-coated meteorite dial on a black PVD base, accented by 18K white gold hands and hour markers, paired with a black ceramic bezel featuring a white enamel tachymeter scale.
  • A galvanic grey meteorite dial set against a blue PVD base, complemented by 18K gold hour markers and blue PVD-coated hands, with a blue ceramic bezel and white enamel tachymeter scale. Subdial hands are crafted from 18K white gold.

Both watches are secured with a polished and brushed bracelet featuring OMEGA’s patented comfort release adjustment system. These inspired designs honour the Speedmaster’s iconic lunar legacy, connecting its heritage to every day and every hemisphere.
