Wine connoisseurs and collectors are in for a rare opportunity as Christie’s prepares to unveil "Timeless Excellence: The Pristine Personal Wine Collection of Jörg G. Bucherer (1936–2023)."

The prestigious online auction, running from April 16 to 30, features an extraordinary selection of wines from the late Jörg G. Bucherer, the third-generation head of the iconic Bucherer luxury watch and jewellery retailer.

This single-owner sale includes 2,474 bottles across 238 lots, estimated at £1 million. All proceeds will support the newly established Jörg G. Bucherer Foundation, ensuring his legacy extends beyond fine craftsmanship and into philanthropy.

Bucherer’s collection is a testament to his deep appreciation for fine wines, meticulously curated and stored under optimal conditions. Among the standout offerings:

  • Six magnums of Château Haut-Brion 1989 (£16,000-£20,000) – A perfectly balanced wine with mellowed tannins and remarkable harmony.
  • Twelve bottles of Le Pin 1990 (£28,000-£35,000) – An opulent wine with fig, blackberry, and spice notes, described as "rocking and rolling across the palate."
  • Twelve bottles of Domaine Leroy, Romanée-Saint-Vivant 1999 (£45,000-£60,000) – A multidimensional Burgundy, with layers of dark berry fruit, smoked meats, and sweet spices.

Beyond these exceptional selections, the collection boasts:

  • 1,628 bottles of Bordeaux (1970-2005), including all the First Growths, alongside Château La Mission Haut-Brion, Palmer, and Pavie.
  • 501 bottles of Burgundy from esteemed producers like Domaine Leroy, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC), and Domaine Ponsot.
  • 312 bottles of Spanish wines, featuring iconic names such as Vega Sicilia, Artadi, and Numanthia.

Jörg G. Bucherer approached wine collecting with the same meticulousness that defined his business career. His Lucerne cellar was pristine, with every bottle stored in its original wooden case under ideal conditions. Meanwhile, his Marbella estate featured a custom-built, climate-controlled cellar to house his impressive Spanish collection.

His passion for wine was matched by his generosity. A beloved ritual at his favourite Lucerne restaurant saw him bringing two rare bottles, one to be enjoyed, the other left for the staff. His belief that fine wine should be shared, not just admired, speaks volumes about his character.

As Christie’s brings these remarkable bottles to market, collectors have the opportunity to celebrate Jörg G. Bucherer’s passion while contributing to a noble cause.
