Inside Rolex's Oscars® Greenroom

As Oscars® invitations go, few are more coveted in the film industry than access to the legendary Greenroom at the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. Here, the biggest names in cinema, from presenters to nominees and winners, find a moment of reprieve amid the Academy Awards ceremony. Since 2016, Rolex has played host to this exclusive space, reinventing it each year to offer an immersive, themed experience.

In 2025, Rolex has drawn inspiration from the restoration of the natural world, spotlighting Rewilding Chile and Rewilding Argentina, initiatives supported by its Perpetual Planet Initiative. These efforts, both offshoots of Tompkins Conservation, are dedicated to protecting and restoring biodiversity.

The Greenroom is a visual tribute to vast, unfenced landscapes where native species are reclaiming their habitats, symbolising nature’s revival. In keeping with its commitment to sustainability, Rolex has crafted the space using eco-conscious textiles and lightweight materials. Airy tulle panels, layered to reflect the soft contours and hues of mountain ranges, are illuminated through sheer curtains, evoking the serenity of the wilderness.

A refined wooden framework supports these tulle panels, forming a sophisticated pattern across the walls and ceiling. A striking sequence of cutouts depicting native wildlife spans one side of the room, while earthy-toned furniture complements the natural aesthetic. The result is an elegant yet grounding environment that reflects the beauty of the rewilded landscapes Rolex seeks to celebrate.

Also on display in the Greenroom is the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40 in 18 ct Everose gold, featuring a Sundust dial, fluted bezel and the signature President bracelet. Instantly recognisable, the Day-Date has become an icon since its launch, distinguished as the first watch to display the day of the week in full within a semi-circular window at 12 o’clock. Exclusively crafted in precious metals, gold or platinum, this timepiece epitomises prestige, making it a fitting companion in a room filled with the world’s most celebrated actors and filmmakers.

Rolex has long been a champion of cinema, supporting its journey from inception to recognition. The art of filmmaking is one of perseverance, innovation and storytelling, and Rolex has aligned itself with the industry’s finest institutions and visionaries. Beyond featuring prominently on the wrists of legendary on-screen characters, Rolex partners with renowned organisations to celebrate and uphold cinematic excellence.

Since 2017, the Swiss watchmaker has been the Exclusive Watch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, a Proud Sponsor of the Oscars® and, in 2018, the Exclusive Sponsor of the Governors Awards. Rolex further cemented its role in film history in 2021 when it became a Founding Supporter and Official Watch of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. Additionally, the brand champions emerging talent through its support of the Student Academy Awards and the Academy100 outreach programme, ensuring the future of global filmmaking remains bright.

Rolex’s commitment to excellence extends beyond watchmaking—it embraces education, conservation and artistic mastery. The Academy’s mission to honour the industry’s past while shaping its future mirrors Rolex’s values, reinforcing the synergy between the two institutions through their enduring partnership.

As an independent Swiss watch manufacturer, Rolex is globally recognised for its technical prowess and uncompromising quality. Each Oyster Perpetual and Perpetual timepiece is certified by COSC before undergoing rigorous in-house testing to meet the brand’s exacting standards for precision, durability and performance. The Superlative Chronometer certification, signified by the green seal, confirms that every Rolex watch has surpassed the stringent testing criteria established by the company and validated by independent bodies.

The word 'Perpetual' is inscribed on every Rolex Oyster watch, signifying more than just a commitment to continuous movement; it embodies the brand’s philosophy of perpetual excellence. Since its founding by Hans Wilsdorf, Rolex has been at the forefront of horological innovation, pioneering milestones such as the first waterproof wristwatch, the Oyster (1926), and the self-winding Perpetual rotor mechanism (1931). Over the decades, Rolex has secured more than 600 patents, a testament to its relentless pursuit of advancement.

With four state-of-the-art sites in Switzerland, Rolex maintains full control over the creation of its timepieces, from gold casting to final assembly. Beyond watchmaking, the brand is deeply invested in the preservation of art, culture, sport and exploration, as well as initiatives aimed at safeguarding the planet. Whether through reimagining the Oscars® Greenroom or crafting timepieces that stand the test of time, Rolex continues to set the standard for excellence in both cinema and horology.
