Château Lynch-Bages and Château Léoville Barton are two exceptional Bordeaux wines with rich Irish heritage and esteemed quality.

Exceptional French Wines with Irish Roots

The world of fine wine is rich with stories, and among these, a few exceptional French wines proudly carry Irish roots. Two of the most distinguished estates in Bordeaux—Château Lynch-Bages and Château Léoville Barton—reflect this unique heritage.

Château Lynch-Bages

Château Lynch-Bages is located in the Pauillac appellation and has its origins in the 18th century, shaped by the Irish Lynch family, particularly Thomas Lynch, who played a key role in establishing its reputation in Bordeaux.

His legacy continues today, with the estate producing full-bodied red wines that showcase the terroir. Classified as a Fifth Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Lynch-Bages has earned a reputation for quality and depth.

The wine is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, blended with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Expect rich flavours of blackberry, cassis, and plum, alongside notes of cedar and spice. The wine’s structure allows for excellent ageing, revealing layers of complexity over time.

Château Léoville Barton

Château Léoville Barton is situated in the Saint-Julien appellation, also with Irish connections through its founder, Thomas Barton.

The estate has remained in the Barton family, known for its commitment to traditional winemaking practices. As a Second Growth estate, Léoville Barton is celebrated for its consistency and quality.

Primarily composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, Léoville Barton wines exhibit vibrant blackcurrant and plum flavours, complemented by notes of tobacco and leather. The well-integrated tannins and solid structure provide excellent ageing potential, leading to an elegant and powerful finish.

Château Lynch-Bages and Château Léoville Barton stand as exceptional examples of fine French wines enriched by their Irish heritage.
