€7,000 for a Painting Made by a 3-Year-Old

At just three years old, Laurent Schwarz is creating a buzz in the art world. This young German artist from Bavaria has already sold some of his works for prices reaching up to €7,000, a remarkable achievement for someone so young. On September 19, he held his first solo exhibition (vernissage) in his hometown of Neubeuern.

Laurent’s artistic journey began unexpectedly. During a family vacation in Italy at the age of two, he picked up a paintbrush for the first time. What began as a playful activity quickly developed into something extraordinary. Since then, the young artist has been creating around one painting per week, entirely at his initiative. His mother, Lisa Schwarz, emphasises the importance of allowing Laurent to paint freely.

Laurent’s rise to fame has largely been driven by his Instagram account, where he is followed by over 84,000 people. What started as a way for his parents to share his creations soon caught the attention of art lovers and collectors alike. The demand for Laurent’s paintings grew so much that his parents decided to sell some of his works online through his professional website.

While his paintings have attracted collectors willing to pay up to €7,000, not all of Laurent’s works are for sale. His first-ever painting, titled The Fingers, holds significant sentimental value for his family, and despite receiving offers, they are not ready to part with it. “I think collectors are interested because it’s his first work,” explains his father, Philipp Schwarz. “But we’re not selling. One day, Laurent will decide for himself what to do with it.”

Although the prices of Laurent’s paintings are impressive for such a young artist, his parents stress that the process is about more than money. Certain works hold deep emotional value, and as Philipp notes, “There are our favourite paintings that we wouldn’t give up for anything.” This highlights a key aspect of Laurent’s story: while his success is incredible, not everything can be measured in monetary terms.

Laurent’s talent has already taken him beyond his small hometown. Earlier this year, his work was featured at Art Muc, Munich’s largest art fair. His instinctive approach to colour and form draws viewers in, creating a sense of wonder. Despite his tender age, Laurent’s art carries a unique, captivating energy, revealing a natural talent far beyond his years.

Though Laurent Schwarz’s future in the art world looks bright, his parents are committed to giving him the freedom to choose his path. For now, his love for painting continues, and his works are admired by an international audience.
