Christie’s Hong Kong proudly hosted the “Cosmic Essence: Archaic Jades from the Lantien Shanfang Collection” auction, featuring 75 extraordinary lots from the esteemed Lantien Shanfang Collection. This single-owner sale highlighted the evolution of archaic jade artistry in China, spanning from 3900 BC to 220 AD. The collection, celebrated for its unmatched quality and rarity over the past two decades, offered collectors and jade enthusiasts a profound insight into ancient Chinese culture and craftsmanship.
The auction achieved a remarkable HK$214,778,200 / US$27,738,067, with all 75 lots sold and nearly 600% hammering over the low estimate. The top lot, a Mid-Eastern Han Dynasty Jade Openwork 'Longevity' Bi Disc (circa 89-144 AD), fetched HK$25,180,000 / US$3,251,934—more than 25 times its pre-sale low estimate, amid intense bidding both online and in the room.
