Christie’s Asian Art Week (12-27 March) features six auctions, including rare ceramics, paintings, and furniture for collectors worldwide.

Christie’s presents Asian Art Week, a series of six auctions, three live and three online, taking place 12-27 March at Rockefeller Center. Live auctions begin on 18 March with Japanese and Korean Art, led by an Important White Porcelain Moon Jar (estimate: $1,800,000-2,500,000).

On 19 March, South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art features Maqbool Fida Husain’s 1954 painting Untitled (Gram Yatra) (estimate: $2,500,000-3,500,000). The series concludes on 20-21 March with Important Chinese Furniture and Works of Art, including a rare 17th-century huanghuali ‘Official’s Hat’ armchair (estimate: $800,000-1,200,000).

Three online sales open on 12 March: South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art Online, Indian, Himalayan and Southeast Asian Works of Art, and Arts of Asia Online.

Live Auction Highlights

Japanese and Korean Art (18 March 2025) features a Moon Jar, Hokusai’s The Great Wave, a Heian-period Dainichi Nyorai sculpture, Goryeo celadon, Joseon porcelains, lacquerware, and modern art.

South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art (19 March 2025) highlights works from the Progressive Artists’ Group, including Husain’s 1954 painting, Raza’s Black Sun (1953), and Padamsee’s Untitled (1969). Additional works by Souza, Ara, Khanna, Abedin, Santosh, Zarina, and Patwardhan are featured, along with pieces from the Baroda Group and artists like Bhupen Khakhar and K.G. Subramanyan.

Important Chinese Furniture and Works of Art (20-21 March 2025) showcases two private collections, including a rare 17th-century huanghuali armchair and a 17th-18th century twelve-panel folding screen. Also featured are Ming and Qing ceramics, imperial jades, archaic bronzes, and select works from esteemed private collections.

Online Auction Highlights

South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art Online (12-25 March 2025) features paintings, prints, and sculptures by Husain, Souza, Kudallur, Sadequain, Agha, and others.

Indian, Himalayan, and Southeast Asian Works of Art (12-26 March 2025) features a Tibetan gilt bronze figure of Maitreya, a post-Gupta Buddha sculpture, Indian miniature paintings, and Gandharan sculptures.

Arts of Asia Online (12-27 March 2025) includes Chinese, Korean, and Japanese artworks such as ceramics, jade carvings, lacquerware, and prints. Highlights include calligraphy by Xutang Zhiyu and Huanghuali furniture from the Dorothy Tapper Goldman Collection.
