Burberry Celebrates the Year of the Snake

To honour the Year of the Snake, Burberry unveils a special capsule collection alongside an artistic partnership with celebrated Chinese bamboo-weaving artist Qian Lihuai.

The collection, centred around the colour red—symbolic of prosperity and good fortune in Chinese culture—introduces a seasonal twist on the iconic Burberry Check. A distinctive snake motif also features prominently, paying tribute to the New Year.

The range includes versatile wardrobe staples such as outerwear, a trench dress, and jersey separates.

For younger fashion enthusiasts, miniature pieces like a puffer jacket and seasonal check scarf are available. Accessories perfect for gifting include silk and cashmere scarves, leather wallets, hats, and bag charms.

In celebration of this collection, Burberry has joined forces with Qian Lihuai, a renowned bamboo-weaving artist whose work bridges tradition and modernity. Bamboo weaving resonates deeply with Burberry’s legacy, reflecting the craftsmanship of its signature gabardine fabric and the timeless Burberry Check. Coming from a lineage of skilled artisans, Qian reimagines the ancient craft with a contemporary flair.

For this collaboration, Qian has created a series of nine bamboo art sculptures titled Us. These serpentine designs, handwoven into abstract forms, are showcased in a campaign featuring actor and Burberry Brand Ambassador Zhang Jingyi, photographed by Walter Pfeiffer. The sculptures are also on display in the windows of key Burberry flagship stores across China. Each piece in the Us series is unique yet interlinked, representing the strength and unity of family bonds. Themes of love, support, and connection—central to the Year of the Snake—are woven throughout the collection and its artistic elements.

‘I’ve always been drawn to Burberry’s signature patterns, and it struck me how the textures and colours have an extraordinary resemblance to the intricate designs found in bamboo weaving. It feels like a natural connection.’ - Qian Lihuai, reflecting on the partnership.

Zhang Jingyi shared her joy in being part of the campaign: ‘The Year of the Snake is a new beginning – a moment to open a fresh chapter. For me, the best part of this time of year is gathering with loved ones, sharing good food and conversation, and soaking in the festive warmth. Shooting Burberry’s campaign gave me a similar sense of connection, especially collaborating with photographer Mr. Walter [Walter Pfeiffer] and the intricate bamboo art installations by artist Qian Lihuai. Creating unique festive memories with Burberry was an absolute joy!’

In addition to Qian’s bespoke sculptures, the collaboration has inspired conceptual window displays across the region, further celebrating the artistry and festive spirit of the Year of the Snake.
