Beyond Aero’s Hydrogen-Electric Jet to Redefine Aviation

Pioneering hydrogen-electric aviation firm Beyond Aero has unveiled an enhanced design for its hydrogen-powered light jet, marking a significant leap toward certification and commercial launch by 2030.

Since introducing the concept in 2023, the company has refined the design to mitigate risks and accelerate certification, aiming to become the world’s first certified hydrogen-electric light jet.

The BYA-1, a groundbreaking hydrogen-electric aircraft, is purpose-built for hydrogen propulsion. Key advancements include a battery-free fuel cell system with built-in redundancy, optimised hydrogen tank placement for enhanced safety, and advanced thermal management for electric propulsion.

These innovations ensure greater reliability, improved safety, and lower operational costs.

With a streamlined electric powertrain, the BYA-1 reduces moving parts by 90%, cutting maintenance costs by up to 55%.

The jet's hydrogen fuel is expected to reduce operating costs by 65% compared to sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) by 2025 and 17% compared to conventional Jet A-1 fuel by 2030, making it an appealing choice for eco-conscious corporate clients.

Designed for sustainable business aviation, the BYA-1 offers a range of 800 nautical miles and a cruise speed of 310 knots, covering over 80% of European flight routes.

It requires just 620 meters for takeoff, making it ideal for airports with space constraints, like London City Airport. Passenger comfort is enhanced with larger windows and quieter, low-noise electric propulsion.

Backed by endorsements from industry experts, Beyond Aero’s hydrogen-electric jet is positioned to lead the future of aviation.

The company is working closely with EASA to meet safety and certification standards, helping shape the regulatory framework for hydrogen propulsion in aviation. With its innovations, Beyond Aero is paving the way for a more sustainable aviation future.
